What we’re fighting for . . .

Mother’s Day has a history as a political holiday — it was created by mothers of soldiers lost in the Civil War, who wanted to end all wars. Perhaps that’s why this day is so special to us. It’s not about what card you get your mom/wife/aunt/daughter/friend. It’s about the purest part of motherhood: a mother’s desire to protect her children at all costs. We fervently believe that the only way to protect our children (and our children’s children, and their children…) is to fight for the future of their planet.

Talk is fine, but actions are better. We demand that political candidates and incumbents pledge to do the following:

1) Ban fracking, fracked gas pipelines, and offshore drilling.

2) Approve a carbon tax on fossil fuels.

3) Approve tax credits for homeowners and businesses that install solar units and energy-saving improvements.

4) Develop a detailed plan to convert the physical facilities and transportation fleets of the state government to clean energies by the year 2025.

5) Convert Virginia to 100% clean energy by 2050. Think this isn’t possible? Engineers at Stanford show how each US state can transition to clean, renewable energy by 2050.
